ActivationOps builds the supply
ActivationOps is CarbX's project activation platform. Its purpose is to identify, structure and develop projects capable of generating Contos in various domains including carbon storage developments, CCS infrastructure, carbon transportation networks, permanent carbon removal projects and other energy transition assets where future environmental, storage or infrastructure capacity can be verified and monetised.
A consistent project development framework aligns technical, commercial, regulatory and financial requirements from the earliest stages of project formation. By creating clear development pathways and standardised project structures, ActivationOps reduces uncertainty for both project developers and investors.
CoTradEx creates the market
CoTradEx is the trading and market infrastructure platform for Contos and future energy transition instruments. Once instruments have been created through ActivationOps and satisfy verification requirements, they become eligible to trade on CoTradEx.
This broadens access to capital by allowing a wider range of investors to participate in energy transition projects without requiring direct ownership of development assets.
Applying the AFin Methodology
At the core of ActivationOps is the AFin (Activation Finance) methodology. AFin enables future project value to be progressively recognised as development milestones are achieved. Rather than waiting until a project becomes operational, value can be activated throughout the development process through structured financial instruments linked to verified project outcomes.
Independent certification and verification procedures ensure that Contos represent genuine and measurable future project value, maintaining market integrity and supporting secondary trading.
Building a Network of System Builders
CarbX does not seek to directly advise or manage every project. Instead, ActivationOps is designed to create a network of licensed System Builders who can work with project developers across multiple sectors and geographies. System Builders are qualified professionals and organisations trained in the ActivationOps methodology, project structuring standards and AFin process.
Their role is to:
- Identify suitable projects.
- Assess activation finance potential.
- Design project structures capable of creating Contos.
- Guide developers through qualification and verification requirements.
- Support financing strategies.
- Manage compliance with market standards.
By licensing System Builders, CarbX creates a scalable capability that can support many more projects than would be possible through a conventional consulting model. The result is an expanding ecosystem of practitioners applying a common framework while maintaining consistent market standards.
System Builders act as qualified advisers throughout project development. They help project sponsors understand how future project value can be translated into financeable instruments and ensure projects remain aligned with market eligibility requirements. Their objective is not merely to secure financing but to prepare projects for successful participation in the wider CarbX ecosystem.
